(PHOENIX)— The 22 organizations of the Arizona Comprehensive Immigration Reform Coalition will host a press conference today in response to the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee’s 13-5 vote Tuesday in favor of comprehensive federal immigration reform.

The press conference will be held in the sanctuary of the First United Methodist Church (Primera Iglesia Metodista Unida), 701 S. First Street, Phoenix, AZ, 85004.

Leadership from the coalition’s member organizations and immigrant families will offer their reaction to the Senate Committee’s overwhelmingly support for the Border Security, Economic Opportunity, and Immigration Modernization Act (S.744). The bill now goes to the full Senate for debate.

During the past several months, the coalition has led hundreds of events in support of federal immigration reform and the core components of S.744. The bill was proposed by the Senate’s “Gang of 8”, including Arizona’s U.S. Senator John McCain and Jeff Flake. The legislation includes provisions to legalize the status of the nation’s 11 million undocumented immigrants and offers a path to citizenship.

Coalition leaders also will announce plans for upcoming actions in support of immigration reform to be held in Arizona and nationwide during the Congressional Memorial Day recess.
